The Attorney General lists the unclaimed property in the form of a searchable database on this website. Through the database you can conduct your own searches and download claim forms.

Under a law passed by the Indiana General Assembly in 1967 and revised in 1995, personal property and money that has gone unclaimed for some time, is turned over to the Attorney General’s Unclaimed Property Division. Under state law, unclaimed property is returned to the State after it has been left with a “holder”, such as a bank, insurance company, or other business or organization, and there has been no owner generated activity in the account for a set period of time and the company’s attempts to contact the owner are unsuccessful.
The Attorney General’s Office holds the property for 25 years while attempting to locate the rightful owner or their heirs. During this time, individuals who are legally entitled may file a claim for the property with the Unclaimed Property Division. If the money goes unclaimed after 25 years, it is deposited in the State’s Common School Fund and can no longer be claimed.
The Attorney General annually publishes the name of the owner in a newspaper in the county of the owner’s last known address as submitted by the holder. Check the legal notices in your local paper.
The Attorney General participates in the Indiana State Fair and the Indiana Black Expo, by setting up a display and information booth. Look for our booth at these events and you can check for yourself whether you have property owed to you.
