Derby, Indiana is located on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River about 30 miles upstream from the Cannelton, IN Locks and Dam and 17 highway miles from Tell City. Derby is surrounded by a wealth of recreational opportunities with the river on the east and the Hoosier National Forest on the west.

The Ohio River and its tributaries offer uncrowded pleasure boating with miles of river and shoreline to explore. It also is great for fishing. Anglers can expect to catch crappie, bluegill, sauger, a variety of bass, plus catfish in all sizes from a pound to 50 or more. The Indiana and Kentucky state record blue catfish was taken down stream in 1999 and weighed in at 104 pounds.

Generally, the creeks are best fishing for crappie, bluegill and largemouth bass, while the river is better for smallmouth, sauger, stripers and the larger catfish. This stretch of the Ohio is host to many fishing tournaments.
